ATTRACTIONS:  PARKS & MOUNTAINS

Port Aventura
Port Aventura is a great theme park located 110 km from Barcelona. The place is divided into five sections with distinctive theme decorations in each; Mexico, Polynesia, the Mediterranean, China and the Far West. The park also features one of the biggest roller coaster rides in Europe, so if you're a fan of pulse-quickening rides, this is certainly the place to go.

Port Olímpic
Port Olímpic owes its birth to the 1992 Olympic Games as it was built as an entertainment and leisure zone exclusively for this event under the Nova Icŕria project. The port is overlooked by the magnificent twin skyscrapers- Mapfire Tower and Hotel Arts Barcelona. It is also always busy both day and night with shoppers, visitors and nightbirds.

Parc de la Ciutadella
A former location of Felipe V's military citadel, today Parc de la Ciutadella has become an oasis for those who need fresh oxygen away from the carbonmonoxide-polluted streets. There is a small lake in the center which is ideal for a picnic as well as the Catalán Parliament building and the city zoo to visit.

Tibidabo
Visitors to Barcelona often find Tibidabo an ideal place to capture the panoramic view of the city. At 542 m, Tibidabo is the highest hill to be seen on the background of Barcelona. On the top of the hill stand many attractions such as the amusement park Parc d'Atraccions, the observation area on the Torre de Collserola telecommunications tower, and the serene and aestehtic Temple del Sagrat Cor.

Montjuďc
The mountain of Montjuďc was used as a setting for Pueblo Espańol, the venue for the World Exposition in 1929 for which all the architectonic styles representative of Spain was laid on the buildings, and the main venue for the 1992 Olympic Games. Literally mean the "Jewish Mountain", visitors can also get a view of the Jewish cemetery and castle on the east side of the mountain.

Monestir de Montserrat
Located 50 km northwest of Barcelona, the rocky Montserrat is home to the monastery dating back to 1025 when it was built to commemorate visions of the Virgin Mary. Today it houses a community of about 80 monks, and pilgrims come to venerate La Moreneta (the Black Virgin), a 12th-century Romanesque wooden sculpture of Mary with the baby Jesus; La Moreneta has been Catalonia's official patron since 1881.
